              Use of ‘The’

We use ‘the’ when we talk about a particular person, place, animal or thing.

              For example,

              1. Give me a pen.

              2. Give me the pen which is in your pocket.

In first sentence, pen is general, so ‘a’ is used.

In second sentence, particular pen was mentioned, so ‘the’ is used.
